Thailand

I’ve spent a lot of time in Thailand. It’s my first answer when people ask where to go for a first solo trip, a budget trip, or just an easy win. Incredible food, friendly locals, and every kind of landscape within reach of each other. Here are the regions I know well.

Where to go in Thailand

Each region has its own vibe. Pick based on what you’re after.

Solo travel

Thailand alone

Thailand is one of the easiest solo destinations on the planet. Infrastructure is excellent, English is widely spoken in tourist areas, and there’s a built-in solo-traveller community in every guesthouse and hostel. Getting between regions is cheap and straightforward.

Budget

Thailand on a budget

Street food is outstanding and very affordable. Accommodation ranges from budget guesthouses to mid-range hotels. Getting around by bus or ferry is cheap. A Wise card and an Airalo eSIM will save you money every single day.
