The Complete Guide to Thailand Airport Transfers
Pre-book with Welcome Pickups before you fly. Your driver will be waiting in arrivals with a sign, the price is fixed, and nothing extra gets added on top. It works at every major Thai airport.
Arriving at a new airport after a long flight is one of the most vulnerable moments of any trip. You are tired, you are in an unfamiliar country, and within seconds of walking through arrivals you will likely be approached by unofficial taxi drivers offering rides at inflated prices.
I have been there. It is exactly as stressful as it sounds.
This guide covers everything you need to know about getting from the airport to your hotel in Thailand without getting ripped off. Pre-booking is the answer, and I am going to show you exactly how to do it at every major airport.
✈️ The four airports you will land at
Thailand has four main international airports.
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok is the largest and busiest. It handles the majority of international flights into Thailand and has the widest range of transfer options.
Don Mueang Airport (DMK), also in Bangkok, is the secondary airport used mainly by budget airlines including AirAsia and Nok Air.
Phuket International Airport (HKT) serves the south of Thailand. Most people heading to Phuket, Krabi, or the southern islands come through here.
Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) serves the north. It is the gateway to Chiang Mai, Pai, and the wider northern region.
All four airports have the same problem: unofficial drivers in arrivals ready to take advantage of jet-lagged tourists. The solution is the same at all four: book before you fly.
🚐 The transfer service I trust
There are two platforms I rely on for Thailand airport transfers.
Welcome Pickups is my first choice. Every driver is professionally vetted, speaks English, and will be waiting for you in arrivals holding a sign with your name on it. The price you see at booking is the price you pay. Nothing gets added on top. It works at every major Thai airport and is the service I recommend to every solo traveller, couple, and family coming to Thailand.

Holiday Taxis is my second pick, particularly good for families and groups. Fixed prices, straightforward booking, reliable and professional service from all major Thai airports to hotels and resorts across the country.
12GO Asia is worth having bookmarked too. It gives you the widest range of transfer options and popular routes like Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to city, Phuket Airport to Patong Beach, and Chiang Mai Airport to city centre. Use code 8YHO-XS8D-CKWM for 10% off your booking.

📱 Two things to have ready before you land
Before you fly, sort these two things.
First, get an eSIM. You want data the second you touch down so you can contact your driver, check your booking confirmation, and pull up Google Maps. I use Airalo for every trip. Thailand plans start from a few dollars and you activate before your flight.
Second, get a Wise card. Any incidental airport costs paid at the real exchange rate with no hidden fees. It has saved me more than once.
🚨 What to do if your transfer does not show up
It is rare, but it happens.
If you land and your driver is not there, do not panic. Do not accept a ride from anyone approaching you in arrivals.
Open the Grab app, which you should have downloaded before leaving home, and book a fixed-price ride directly to your hotel. Grab operates at all major Thai airports, gives you a guaranteed price and full route tracking, and there is a designated pick-up point at most terminals. I have used it as a backup myself.
📋 Your arrival checklist
- Pre-book your transfer with Welcome Pickups or Holiday Taxis before you fly
- Alternatively, book via 12GO Asia with code 8YHO-XS8D-CKWM for 10% off
- Activate your eSIM before your flight so you have data on landing
- Download Grab as your backup transport option
- Have your Wise card loaded and ready
- Sort travel insurance before you depart
Do all of these and your arrival in Thailand will be smooth and stress-free from the first minute.
